About Me

(Previously I had a blog somewhere else, where I spoke about my experience being vegan, and results using the Dr. McDougall plan, which I recommend to everyone to at least try :))

I have been gone for quite awhile! So here is a little about me… at the end of 2008 I went vegan from reading the book ‘Skinny B!tch’, I stayed vegan until December of 2009 when my doctor told me I’m hypothyroid after gaining 30 lbs in one month! I went from 165 to 195 in an instant. My doctor told me I can no longer eat anything soy, and that I’d most likely be better on a vegetarian diet and gave me a ‘hypothyroid diet’ print out with new foods to try and help me lose weight as well as my medication. So I decided to make th change from vegan to vegetarian. Since this time I’ve had the worst struggle losing weight! Then in March 2010 I found out my husband was cheating and decided to divorce him, I had just quit my job a few months prior so we could move with the military (he is in the army) so I was left with nothing. I moved to my step mothers home jobless, pennyless, and completely heartbroken. I tried to stay vegetarian while there but was starving the whole time since she is poor and only bought a few food items which did not include any fruits or vegetabls except bananas. I ended up pretty much eating bananas, peanutbutter sandwiches or cheese sandwiches on white bread (definitely no good for my thyroid). I of course also never felt satisfied eating the same yuck foods. After a month or two I was also no longer vegetarian so I could have a little more variety while living in her home, and eating as a family.  Even though I wasn’t over eating, the bad foods kept my weight going uphill. It’s now June of 2011, I’ve lived in my own place again since January but unfortunately was laid off work. I currently weigh 227 lbs. (I haven’t weighed over 190 before the thyroid diagnosis since 2003!) So here I am to continue my life journey with a few more bumps in the road!

Now that we know why I am fat yet again, time for me to get back at it! I decided to start the McDougall MWL program again (since it is such a healthy great diet for me). I re-started McDougall on June 1st & will be weighing myself every Friday.
